Merced County Sheriff Deputies Arrest Pair of Motel 6 Robbers

On December 1, 2017 at about 2:00am the Merced County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the Motel 6, located at 28821 Gonzaga Road in Santa Nella, saying they had just been robbed. While deputies were in route, they were given the description of the suspect being a heavy set Hispanic male wearing a grey sweatshirt and black pants. The male took approximately $200.00 in various denominations, and left in a white ford F-150 with a gold stripe around the bottom portion of the body.

Deputy Joseph Royel and Deputy Adam Kent arrived on scene and began taking the report when they received another report of a robbery taking place at the Motel 6 located at 12733 Hwy 33 in Santa Nella. However, this report involved the suspects having a silver handgun and the description of the suspect was the same as in the first crime. Both units responded to the area of Hwy 33 and Motel 6 to intercept the suspects, Deputy Kent went down Hwy 140 towards interstate 5 and located a white F-150 matching the suspect vehicle, which was parked at the Shell gas station on Hwy 140.

Deputy Kent waited for back-up units and eventually made contact with the two suspects who were the occupants of the white F-150 and suspects in the robberies. Some acquaintances of the suspects happened to be at the Shell gas station at the same time and prior to making contact with the suspects, one of the suspects sat in the acquaintances car and placed the silver handgun and several hundred dollars in the back passenger seat. The Firearm and the money were located and both subjects were positively identified by a witness from one of the motels. During the investigation, both subjects confessed to their roles in the robberies.

The suspects were identified as 29 year old Adam Torres (right pictured above) and 19 year old Carlos Torres. Both suspects were booked into the Merced County Jail.
