Merced Police arrest murder suspect four+ years after two male victims were shot

On October 10, 2017, Rafael Lopez, 29 of Merced was arrested for a double homicide that took place in the City of Merced. On 05/23/13, officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of W. 12th Street for a shooting. The two victims were identified as Alberto Narvaez, age 22 and Miguel Narvaez, age 27, both are residents of Merced. Both victims died from their gunshot wounds. Investigators worked leads and interviewed witnesses but were unable to develop a suspect at the time.

Over the next few years there were advancements in technology and tips from the public that helped investigators to develop a suspect. After some investigation and help from witnesses, Detective Jeff Horn was able to arrest Rafael Lopez for the murders of the Narvaez brothers on 10/10/17. Lopez was interviewed about the case and then booked for several felony charges including homicide.
