Sureno Gang members arrested in Atwater

On Monday, October, 9th, 2017, APD Officer Pitney was called to an address to take a report involving brandishing of a firearm. A male and female victim reported that a white Mercedes sedan occupied by four Hispanic males had driven by their residence twice and both times the front seat passenger pointed what appeared to be a black semi-automatic handgun at them. Details were obtained by Officer Pitney who broadcast a ‘Be on the Lookout’ for the described vehicle and occupants. Approximately an hour later, Officer Rivera was patrolling the west side of Atwater and observed a vehicle matching the description driving northbound on Winton Way. Officer Rivera notified APD Dispatch of his location and other officers responded and conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle as it entered the town of Winton.

All four occupants were then detained. A black semi-automatic replica airsoft gun was located on one of the seats and a loaded shotgun wrapped in an article of clothing was also located. All four subjects were admitted Sureno street gang members out of Atwater.

Daniel Sandoval and Sergio Sandoval, both adults, were arrested along with two juveniles. Both adults were booked into Merced County Jail on brandishing and gang enhancement charges. The juveniles were released to their parents with recommendations for the same charges being forwarded to the Merced County District Attorney’s Office and Juvenile Probation Department.
