On August 10th, 2017 Atwater Police arrested 18 year old Brandon Mosby today after he led officers on a foot chase for several blocks. Merced County Probation contacted Officer Walker and provided him information about Mosby having a no bail warrant for a probation violation and that he was possibly in the area of Atwater High School where he had reportedly been camping out in the overnight hours. Officer Walker saw Mosby walking on Winton Way about 1:30 PM and attempted contact with him. Mosby appeared to submit to Officer Walker’s request for him to stop and talk to him but Mosby then fled on foot southbound on Winton Way. Mosby ran through an apartment complex in the 1700 block of Bellevue Road and continued southbound into a neighborhood hopping over fences.
Several officers converged on the area and set up a perimeter. Mosby could be seen jumping over several residential backyard fences and refused to comply with numerous orders to stop. Officers then spotted Mosby jumping into a backyard on Cottonwood Drive. As officers gained access to the backyard, the homeowner at that location attempted to detain Mosby who kicked the homeowner in the face as he resisted arrest. Mosby also caused damage to the rear fence at the location. Mosby was transported to the police station and treated by Riggs Ambulance for minor abrasions and eventually booked into Merced County Jail on the no bail warrant as well as fresh charges of Resisting Arrest, Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Vandalism. The victim homeowner was treated by Riggs Ambulance at the scene.
