On June 16, 2017 at approximately 12:48 pm, Officer Luis Castellanos of the Los Banos Police Department was on patrol in the area of 7th and F street when he attempted to stop a silver Toyota sedan for failing to yield to oncoming traffic.
The driver, a 15-year-old male, failed to yield to the officer’s emergency lights and siren. The officer pursued the vehicle for approximately 54 seconds before the vehicle collided into a power pole at the intersection of 8th and D Street. The driver and two male juveniles ran from the vehicle and attempted to hide in neighborhood back yards.
All three males were caught within minutes of the collision and placed under arrest.
One of the juvenile passengers received a minor injury during the collision, and the driver was charged with fleeing the scene of an injury hit and run collision and failing to yield to an emergency vehicle with disregard for public safety. Both passengers were charged with resisting arrest and released to their parents.
