Man arrested and charged with human trafficking of a juvenile

On April 12, 2017 Officers of the Merced Police Department DART (Disruptive Area Response Team) learned of a young girl being trafficked for sex by a 22 year old suspect, Daniel Luzania. Luzania was posting pictures of the 14 year old victim online in advertisements for prostitution and was acting as her pimp, negotiating transactions and taking the proceeds of sex acts with the victim. DART Officers conducted an undercover operation to locate and recover the victim. Officers arranged to engage in sex with the juvenile through Luzania and recovered the victim after arriving at the hotel to meet the juvenile for sex.

Officers discovered Luzania hiding in the hotel room and arrested him without incident. The juvenile was uninjured and was returned to her family. Luzania was booked at the Merced County Main Jail for human trafficking of a juvenile and pimping and is currently being held on a $250,000 bond.
