Merced Police arrest 21-year-old for weapon charges with gang enhancements

Last night at about 9:24 P.M. Merced Police Department Officers responded to the area of E. Childs Ave. and Watertown after receiving reports of a male shooting a gun in this area. MPD Officer Salyers was the first officer on scene. As Officer Salyers began to check the area, he located a male in the area matching the description of a possible suspect. As Officer Salyers approached this male, Officer Salyers saw him toss an item onto the ground. Officer Salyers was able to detain the male and identify him as Eruvey Martinez, 21.

After detaining Martinez, Officer Salyers went over to the item Martinez had tossed and saw that it was a handgun. Martinez had tossed a 38 caliber semiautomatic handgun. Through his investigation Officer Salyers determined that Martinez had discharged the firearm in the area of Brimmer Rd and Dinkey Creek Ave. Martinez was arrested for multiple firearms violations, and a gang enhancement. Martinez was later booked at the jail for multiple felony charges.
