Merced High 2016 grad now making impact for San Jose State water polo

Kathryn Elgin, a 2016 Merced High graduate, is making an impact as a freshman for the #16-ranked San Jose State Spartans water polo team.

After missing her first semester of play with a serious concussion, she returned to the pool with a goal scoring tidal wave. Last Saturday she scored four goals in a Spartans 20-3  win over previously undefeated Occidental College at the UC Davis Aggie Shootout.

Kathryn’s parents, David and Sharyl Elgin of Merced, say Kathryn only started asking about the sport of water polo about 8 years ago.

“I didn’t really know what it was, I told her it looked like hockey with ice melted,” joked her dad David.

Great work Kathryn, and Merced is proud of you!
