IT PAYS OFF WHEN ATWATER CITIZEN SEES SOMETHING AND SAYS SOMETHING

On 10/30/16 at approximately 11:06 a.m., Atwater Police Department Officer Rivera was dispatched to the 1800 block of Atwater Boulevard for a suspicious vehicle report. After the reporting party provided the license plate to dispatch, it was confirmed as being a reported stolen vehicle out of Winton.

During the investigation, the reporting party stated she observed a Hispanic male adult wearing a camouflage jacket and blue jeans and carrying a camera around his neck, drive the white Ford Explorer into the parking lot of her apartment complex on at 10:40 a.m. The suspect later identified as Doroteo Hernandez (39), parked the vehicle in a marked no parking zone and walked to a residence on Olive Avenue.

As Officer Rivera arrived on scene he made contact with Hernandez near the stolen vehicle and Hernandez fled on foot on Atwater Boulevard. Officer Rivera was able to locate Hernandez and detain him. During the investigation it was confirmed that Hernandez had stolen the vehicle.  He was booked for vehicle theft, possession of stolen property and driving without a license.
