SUSPECT DRIVES CAR INTO A WALL DURING ARGUMENT WITH GIRLFRIEND

On 10/27/16 at approximately 9:48 a.m., Atwater Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Harbor Drive and Shaffer Road regarding a solo vehicle accident where a vehicle ran into a cement wall.

During the investigation officers learned that the female driver and her boyfriend, Ramiro Carrillo (41) were in a dispute when Carrillo grabbed the steering wheel and steered them into the wall at approximately 40 mph.  The victim had visible injuries to her face and was transported to an undisclosed hospital for treatment. Carrillo was arrested at the scene for assault with a deadly weapon and corporal injury to a spouse or cohabitant (both felonies) and booked into Merced County Jail.

This Investigation is ongoing to determine if being under the influence played a role in this incident. As result of the collision there was severe damage to the city wall on Shaffer Road.
