On September 29, 2016 at approximately 1438 hrs. Atwater police officers were dispatched to the area of Shaffer and Bellevue Road regarding a subject wearing all black and trying to break windows to vehicles in the parking lot of Food 4 Less and MSEFCU Bank.
The subject was located in the dumpster area near a liquor store just south of the bank. He was identified as Alexander Reynaga, 28.
Once Reynaga was located, he was ordered out of the dumpster area and advised that he was going to be detained for possible vandalism.
Sergeant Snyder approached Reynaga and advised him to place his hands behind his back so he could be detained in handcuffs on suspicion of vandalism. Reynaga put both of his fists together and interlocked them and continued to not follow Sgt Snyder’s commands.
Sergeant Snyder then grabbed Reynaga by his left hand and Reynaga grabbed a hold of Sergeant Snyder’s left pinky finger and hand. Reynaga failed to release his hand and was shoved forward, at which time both Snyder and Reynaga fell to the ground.
Sgt. Snyder then got back to his feet. Reynaga then wrapped his legs around Sergeant Snyder’s right leg. Sgt. Snyder then gave Reynaga a distraction strike to the back of his head in order for him to release his hand and leg. Reynaga was then taken into custody without further incident and booked into jail for resisting arrest.
Reynaga received an abrasion to his forehead and Sgt. Snyder had a swollen right hand.
