ATWATER PD CONTINUES TO ARREST VEHICLE THIEVES

On 6/21/2016 at approximately 3:38 p.m., Atwater PD Officers Radke and Crain responded to 1400 block of Redwood Avenue in an attempt to locate someone regarding an investigation. While at the residence, Officer Crain noticed a silver motorcycle parked on the roadway with no license plate. Further investigation of the motorcycle revealed it was reported stolen out of Ceres.

With further investigation, Officer Radke discovered William Rice (53) is suspected of stealing the motorcycle and he was contacted at the residence. Rice claimed he had purchased the motorcycle some time ago in Turlock and has been trying to get it registered at DMV. However, he could not explain the fact that the ignition key was broken off.

Rice was placed under arrest for possession of stolen property and booked in the Merced County Jail. He has since been released after posting $20,000 bond.  According to county records, he served 90 days in jail in 2012 for possessing/receiving stolen property.
