MERCED SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES LOCATE DISABLED WOMAN WHO FELL FROM HER WHEELCHAIR

On 5/29/16 at 9:17 p.m., Sheriff Deputies received a call for service pertaining to a missing disabled person.  The reporting party requested Sheriff’s Deputies assist in locating her disabled aunt, whom she believed had fallen out of her motorized wheelchair near the Merced Wal-Mart. The reporting party reported that the missing person has a history of leaving in her wheelchair and is often found in random places around the City of Merced. Deputy Kirk Lanford checked several areas throughout the Beachwood area and the City of Merced with no sign of her.

At 1:00 a.m., the reporting party called and wanted to report Valerie Rae Victor (59) of Merced as a lost/missing person. The reporting party had telephone contact with Victor throughout the night, however could not obtain her location and was concerned for her safety.

Deputy Lanford responded back to the reporting party’s residence on Cowden Avenue and learned Victor may be somewhere along the Santa Fe railroad tracks.

Deputies Kirk Lanford, Chris Chilton and Jeffery Moran began another search in the area of Old Santa Fe Road. Deputies eventually located Victor approximately 10 yards off the roadway, face down in a ditch with her wheelchair on top of her. Medical personnel arrived and transported Victor to Mercy Hospital for further evaluation of pain to her face.
