SHOTS FIRED WHILE OFFICERS BREAK UP PARTY

At 12:55 a.m., Merced PD was in the process of breaking up a very large party in the 1100 block of Crescent Dr. One officer saw the a suspect pulling out a gun as the suspect was walking towards another officer that was seated in his patrol vehicle. The officer gave the suspect orders to drop the gun and he refused. The officer fired one round, missing the suspect, and the suspect then dropped the gun and fled on foot. The officer described the suspect who shot as a Black male wearing a red sweatshirt with writing on the front of it and possibly blue jeans. The officer advised the gun used was secured.

The suspect was last seen running southbound on Yosemite Avenue and officers immediately set up a perimeter hoping to surround the suspect.  They began searching the area inside the perimeter with the MPD Canine.  Officers did locate two shell casings within the perimeter.

At approximately 4:00 a.m., officers cleared the area and the suspect is still at large.

An ambulance was requested for one of the partygoers for extreme intoxication.
